Independent travel in South-East Asia
We have stayed at a lot of hotels in South East Asia in our travels. Some good, some bad, and some beyond belief. Here are some we have stayed in, and feel we can recommend.
Getting to Singapore is not difficult, and you will find almost all airlines in the world flies into Singapore. With a bit of shopping around online for flights, you should be able to get a reasonable fare from any major airport.
Arrival into Singapore involves landing at the amazing Changi airport , a whole self supporting city within the one huge terminal. It would be quite possible to have a three day holiday without leaving this terminal - shopping, entertainment, bars & restaurants are throughout. You can sleep within the airport terminal, at the Transit Hotel, if necessary, that can be very useful if you arrive into Singapore at a difficult hour.
However, with careful planning you can ensure you arrive during convenient hours. The quickest and easiest way to get to the centre of Singapore is by heading to a nearby taxi rank, and, because the city is so compact, it is a reasonably inexpensive journey, particularly when compared with most other cities. Even cheaper though, you can catch the MRT train or bus, although this is only recommended if you not carrying too much luggage, and you have an understanding of where you are going.
