From Fraser Hill you will drive back to the main highway and continue north. You then divert back into the mountains about 80km further North, at Tapah, to visit the group of towns collectively know as the Cameron Highlands. From Tapah, on the northern highway, it is 60km inland to the main tourist town, and the bulk of the accommodation, at Tanah Rata. The other towns of the Cameron Highlands are Ringlet, about 15km before, and Brinchang, about another 10 km further on, although neither have the same tourist feel as Tanah Rata. Although only 60km from the main road, this it is another slow drive, twisting and turning hundreds of times as the road winds around and up the hills and mountains.
The Cameron Highlands are the hill station area most tourist friendly and laid back, and Tahan Rata is quite backpacker focused, with many cheap restaurants, hotels and other services. Further on from Tanah Rata, where the road passes around the golf course, many of the mid range and upmarket hotels can be found. Sometimes it is possible to pickup a good special at one of these hotels if your timing is right, as they can sometimes offer up to 70% of the book rate.
