Fraser Hill (Bukit Fraser) is one of the best places for bushwalking in Malaysia, as it is cool, and surrounded by dense virgin jungle. Marked walking trails lead you on several good walks, ranging from one hour, to five hours, all though some picturesque forest, waterfalls and lakes. It is a good opportunity to view a massive range of bird and animal life. For more details on the wildlife, and the available walks, pop into the WWF office in the town area.

Mid priced accommodation is fairly limited, but the most authentic place to stay is in the original stone bungalows that are spread throughout the town area. Several of these houses have rooms available to rent, and they are run and controlled by the local government authority. Rooms are available in several houses, and found by inquiring at the FHDC shopfront across from the clock tower, as you enter town. Each of the houses have a housekeeper who leaves at 5.00, and two or three rooms available to rent in each house. You then have run of the lounge and living areas, and if you are lucky you may be able to secure a house that is occupied only by you. If you are fortunate enough to end up with your own bungalow, it feels half way between a old English manor, and a haunted house!
Unlike anywhere else on the Malaysian Itinerary, Bukit Fraser is the only town where you could potentially have trouble with money. There is not an ATM machine and the Tourist bureau and shops only take cash. There is only regular walk-in bank, open normal banking hours, so consider this before arriving. In addition, there is also no petrol station. Both of these are not huge problems, as long as you are aware before you get there, and have plenty of both cash and petrol!
