Sukhumvit Road Area
The Sukhumvit Rd area has a lot of the western hotel brands, and is spread over about a four to five kilometer stretch of Sukhumvit Rd (obviously), the main highway out of the city eastwards, and the side streets (called Soi's) that run of it. Most of the hotels, restaurants and bars are located on the Soi's, that are numbered, but unnamed side streets running off Sukhumvit. An address for a hotel in the area may read 34 Soi 6 Sukhumvit Rd. With plenty of hotels, and with new ones being opened regularly, this area can provide some real bargains in mid to higher range accommodation. Transport wise, the area is well serviced by the sky train system, one branch of which runs above Sukhumvit Rd. There are 4 stations from the beginning of Sukhumvit Rd, namely Ploenchit, Nana, Asoke, and Phrom Phong, and after that the road looses its tourist options. If you are considering a hotel in this area, look to see if they are in walking distance from one of the Skytrain stations, as it is a huge advantage for access to the other areas of the city, particularly Siam City, Chinatown, Patpong and the Chao Phraya River. Skytrain can reach all of these areas, for 20 - 50 Baht, saving money, time and annoying negotiations with taxis drivers. .
However, Sukhumvit is a long street, and some areas are not as appealing as others, with limited services, and this may be hard to evaluate until you get there. Also, the area can be sleazy, with many bars, bar girls, prostitutes and massage services, and as a result attracts a lot of westerners who are looking for these services
