Once in Ubud, you need to find somewhere to stay. The closest areas to the main town area are Monkey Forest Rd, and Ubud Rd. Both these streets have plenty of mid range hotels, and are close to the artist shops and studios, as well as the Island's scared monkey forest, Mandala Wisata Wenare Wana. However, there are also many of the more upmarket hotels, on larger properties, a little outside of town. The steep slopes of the Ayung and Wos Rivers are spectacular locations for some great hotels. If you were looking for somewhere to splurge for a few days, one of these hotels would be a great choice.
Most people who come to Ubud spend most of their stay here investigating the many artist's shops, studios, workshops and displays. This can pass hours or days, and you can choose whether you look, buy or participate in all of the local arts.
The farmland around Ubud is interesting, and a self-drive or tour around the area will reveal some picturesque scenes and tranquil villages, and is well worth spending some time enjoying.
