Singapore Zoo and Night Safari
Another star attraction to visit while in Singapore, is the enthralling Singapore Zoo, as well as the Singapore Night Safari. Both are located side by side of each other in the north of Singapore, about a $25 taxi ride each way from most hotels. They are two different establishments, but it is possible to combine these two complementary but different experiences. However the only problem is you are then left with about 3 hours to kill, between when the zoo closes around 4pm, before the night safari opens at 7.30. (Even then, it needs to be completely dark before you start your tour). The Zoo is the best in the region, and has over 30 primate species, as well as white tigers, komodo dragons, polar bears and even Kangaroos!
The Night Safari is an unusual but great concept. It is shown to the public via open tram-style buses that travel around a dimly lit path, through a series of different jungles and habitats. You get to see a lot of the timid, nocturnal creatures that are so hard for people to see in a normal zoo. This included leopards and panthers, as well as possums, native cats, bats and many many more nocturnal creatures. In the semi darkness, the low fences and moats are become almost unseen, and it feels a lot like you are on safari. (but with commentary, so you don't miss anything) Once you have seen all the animals, visit the toilets, as they are quite extraordinary!
