When in Bali, Kuta is the place to shop. It doesn't matter what you are shopping for, it is here in Kuta somewhere. Traditional Balinese handicrafts, as well as those from other parts of the archipelago, simple jewellery, brand knock-off clothing, CD's and DVD's are prolific, and incredibly cheap.
In addition, more upmarket retailers, such as department stores, duty free stores, brand name outlets, and even luxury brand stores are ever increasing. Add to this a recent proliferation of day spas (an evolution of the traditional beach massage, that is still available), and a growing number of bulky "export" goods such as water features and pots, rattan and wooden furniture, stone work, gazebos, and many more items arriving as we speak, and there is little that can not be purchased here.
Kuta is also the best place to organise any onward arrangements, including tours and flights, motorbike and car rental, transfers, ferries, and even onward accommodation, and, because of the competition, prices are the lowest on the island.
