It is quite possible to go onward overland from Ko Chang. The destinations from Ko Chang east are all in Cambodia, with minibus and bus transfers to Phnom Phen, Seam Reap, and Sihanoukville, all heading generally east, but in different directions. All of these services cost about 800 to 1500 Baht, and in addition, there are costs associated with getting a Cambodian entry visa at the border, including a visa cost of 1250 Baht.

However, for this itinerary, the final step is the return to point of initiation, and that means back to Bangkok. From Ko Chang there is either the VIP bus service or a minibus service, both have pickup from all hotels along the western beaches, by minibus. You are then transferred to the ferry terminal, and then board the appropriate bus or minibus at Laem Ngop. The advantage to the slightly more expensive minibus is that it takes less time, by aprox 1 - 1 ½ hours, and you don't need to load and unload your luggage at the ferry, as your minibus transfers with you. This is one of the reasons the minibus service is quicker. In addition, the minibus will take you to our hotel either in Khao San, or Sukhumvit Road, were as the VIP bus drops at one location in Khao San only.
The transfer should be uneventful, and usually only allows one stop, at a fuelling station, about one hour out from Bangkok. These refill stations have an excellent and very cheap range of food vendors and services, and are often a welcomed rest on an five hour journey. Eventually you will reach Bangkok, and again, at that point either pickup another itinerary, or return home.
