Where Next?
Ko Samet is 75 kilometers east from Pattaya, and about 200 kilometers southeast of Bangkok. It  takes a little over an hour from Pattaya by Minibus, depending on traffic and how many fellow travellers you have to pickup. The minibus services will carry 6 - 9 people, and will pick you up from your hotel in the Pattaya area. However, like any service in Thailand, prices are negotiable, so expect them to start quite high. In our opinion, a fair price appears to be about 300 Baht per seat, although it does depend how many middlemen are involved!
The island is not far offshore from the town of Ban Phe, and the ferry ride from Ban Phe will only take a half hour or so, depending on which ferry, and to which beach you go. There are a couple of ferry terminals, and you will notice there are huge varieties of various wooden vessels, most with a " resort" or similar name on the side. These are not the public ferry service that runs to Na Dan Pier, and often will not go to where you are expecting. The resort named ferries will only take you to the particular beach on Ko Samet where their resort is.

This is not always a bad thing, or a good thing, just something to be aware of. If you have a forward booking, it will become important to get dropped off at the right spot, as once the boats go south of Ao Hin Khok beach, it is reasonably hard to transfer from one area to the next. Alternatively, it can be an advantage, as all of the southern beaches are much quieter and more relaxed, and you then don't have to stop at the public jetty at Na Dan, where you may be tempted to get off, and thus miss better opportunities further south.
