Where Next?
Having arrived in Pattaya, accommodation is the next challenge, and it is spread over a reasonably large area. Many of the hotels are along the main street fronting Pattaya beach, called Beach Rd, and the Soi's that run between Beach Rd and Second and Third roads, that are the next couple back from the beach. As an alternative, the Jomtien Beach area, which is to the south of the headland at the southern end of Pattaya beach, offers a quieter atmosphere, as it is away from the nightclub and bar noise of the main strip. If your stay is going to be short one, of only one or two days, you should probably, stay in Pattaya central to get a proper understanding of Pattaya,  but if you want to relax, or a going to stay for more than a few days, or are travelling as a  family,  try Jomtien.

Pattaya
Pattaya was originally a small fishing village that has grown to the hedonistic holiday destination that it now is, mainly from the original appeal of its beach. These days Pattaya beach is still a nice stretch of beach, sitting on a fairly good shallow bay. The beach is busier now, with deck chairs and sun couches taking up most of the space. The sea is busy with powerboats, jet skis,  para-sailers and banana boaters and this leaves the water pretty choppy and stirred up a lot of the time.
At the south end of the beach, Beach street turns into a pedestrian only street, known as Walking Street, and the surrounding area, called "the village", is the centre of the busy sex trade, and as a result, at night, becomes a kaleidoscope of visual experiences, suitable only for open minded adults. This is a major attraction for many tourists, and the area is very busy at night. It is worth a visit, even if just to see how the other half live and even to get a bit of an understanding of how Thai women, and men, get sucked into this exploitive life. Also, Pattaya is famous for the Transvestite cabaret shows, the most popular of which are Tiffany's, and Tony's.
