Getting from Genting to Bukit Fraser (also known as Fraser Hill) is an interesting drive, as it is only fifty kilometers as the crow flies between the two, but takes four or five hours and 150 km to get between the two by car. It involves driving east out of the mountains to Bentung, then north, and then west back into the mountains again. The whole drive is well off the beaten track, and you pass through several Malaysian country towns, as well farming areas and small villages.
Fraser Hill is not on the agenda for most tourists, and , therefore, is the least developed and most authentic of the traditional English hill stations. It is also the coolest, and it is easy to understand the relief that must have been felt by the early settlers of these hill stations. It would have been a long and tiresome journey to get here from Kuala Lumpur, but certainly well worth it!
The final dozen kilometers on the road into Bukit Fraser is very narrow as it is carved into the sides of mountains and is restricted to one directional traffic at a time. A ranger station controls the traffic flow, be it is up or down, in hourly blocks, from both the road and the Bukit Fraser end. Therefore, there is a good change of a wait by the side of the road, until the road is open.
