Banglamphu and Khao San Rd
Accommodation, of every conceivable standard, is available in a variety of areas, predominately the following - Banglamphu & Khao San Rd area, Siam Square,  Sukhumvit Rd area and the Silom & Chinatown district. These areas offer different general standards of accommodation, and all have their own advantages and disadvantages.
It has a busy market area along Khao San Rd, which is closed off to traffic (except taxis and tuk-tuks). Within walking distance from most of Banglamphu is the Chao Phraya River, with its public ferry system, allowing tourists to travel up and down the river, as well as Grand Palace, as well as other wats and temples. The area is low-rise and has rustic charm that the rest of Bangkok lacks. However, accommodation in the area is mostly all two star and less, and getting to the other tourist  areas is difficult at the best of times, and impossible when the traffic is bad.

The Banglamphu & Khao San Rd area is located in the original central Bangkok area, and is the favored area for backpackers and the long-term budget travellers, alternative types and many others.
