International Flights into Bangkok arrive at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is roughly 30 Km to the south-east of the city. Suvarnabhumi is a completely new airport, and until September 2006, international flights arrived at Don Muang Airport, on the opposite side of the city. If you have previously flown into Bangkok, you will be pleasantly surprised at the organised and modern terminal, as well as the convenience to the city of the new airport compared to the old one. This will only improve when the Pink Line express train service is completed. It will run from Phaya Thai Skytrain station to the Suvarnabhumi airport, taking only 15 minutes. This expected to be ready in early 2008.
However, until then, the only real option of getting to the city is with a taxi. Although this sounds simple, finding a taxi is not that simple! The airport runs limousine services, and they are prominently set up as you come through the arrival gate. These services promote themselves as taxis, but are actually private transport vehicles. The touts promote this service actively, and when you ask for a taxi, these operators will assure you that is what they are. The Limosines will get you to hotel in Bangkok (or else ware), without a problem, but at a much higher price that a genuine taxi (900 Baht onwards).
