Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, has a population of more than 6 million. As a result, the city and surrounds spread over a huge area, and the central city itself is very large. Fortunately for the tourist, the area most western tourists are likely to stay in, and the different areas you will wish to visit, are within a 10 x 10 km area, directly east of the Chao Phraya River.
It would be very difficult to make an accommodation decision by travelling around the city carrying your luggage. It will be necessary to make a decision before you arrive on Bangkok, as to which district you intend to stay in. If your stay in Bangkok is only going to be for a few days, you should consider booking it all online before you arrive. If you are staying for longer, book your first couple of nights before you get there, and then discover and investigate the other areas once you have established an initial base.
When trying to decide where to stay, there is a lot of areas of the city to consider. The following few pages will give some pluses and minuses for the different areas
