Normal arrival onto the island of Phuket is at Phuket International Airport (Airport code HTK). Phuket International is the second busiest airport in passenger numbers in Thailand, eclipsed only by Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. It services at least 10 airlines, and processes close to 3 million passengers a year. This means it is a busy airport, and one with a good level of services, as well as good security. That is reassuring to the arriving holidaymaker, with safety being such an important part of travel these days. Arrivals are onto the ground floor, and the normal services such as currency exchange and hotel and taxi booking counters and rental car booths are all located in strategic locations after immigration, within the passenger hall, to allow incoming visitors to avail these services.
Arrival to Phuket
Phuket International airport is located on the North West end of the island, and planes land from the ocean side, so it offers one of those scenic landings, similar to Denpasar Airport in Bali, where the airoplane comes in low over the sea and touches down immediately after crossing onto land. I is quite picturesque, and probably strategically located to be on the sheltered, calmer side of the island?
The airport is however, located well away from the primary destinations on the island, Patong, Karon and Kata beaches, Phuket town, and the Port of Phuket It is about 35 km, or 45 minutes from Patong for example.  Like most of Thailand, there are regular taxis, pulling up outside the arrivals area, and Limousine services and special taxis operate from within the terminal. These services present themselves as regular taxis when it suits them, but charger a considerably higher rate for the trip to Phuket town, or more likely Patong beach. A regular meter taxi should cost about 400 Baht, a limo or non-metered taxi, from about 600 - 900 Baht
